# CongoVersity — the education arm (free, honest, neurodiversity-affirming)

> **Where this sits.** CongoVersity has two interlocking halves. **This file is the schooling
> half** — how a person actually *learns* on CongoVersity, and the one honest gate that decides
> whether a tier is *certified* or merely *supplementary*. The other half —
> [CONGOVERSITY_TRUST.md](CONGOVERSITY_TRUST.md) — is the **web of trust** that routes around the
> accreditation cartel: source-verified peers conferring earned, field-scoped standing, and the
> same graph governing a cite-or-refuse body of knowledge. Read them together; neither stands
> alone.

## ⭐ The lodestar
> **A kid who learns better in a shopfront than a state classroom, and a tenured professor, are
> both real learners. CongoVersity's job is to teach the first honestly and credit them fairly —
> never to sell either of them a lie about what a certificate means.**

If a feature makes learning cost money the poor can't pay, or lets someone *look* qualified without
*being* it, it has failed the lodestar. Learning here is **free and un-enclosed**; credit here is
**earned and honestly labelled**, never sold and never faked.

## The honest gate (the one load-bearing decision)
Everything CongoVersity teaches is free. But **"free schooling" and "a state-recognised
qualification" are not the same thing, and CongoVersity never lets them blur.** Every surface names
exactly which of two things a learner is holding:

- **Certified** — a tier delivered *with an accredited partner* (a registered school, a recognised
  awarding body, a national qualifications route). Only this produces a **state-recognised
  credential**. CongoVersity does not mint one itself and never claims to.
- **Supplementary, not certified** — everything CongoVersity offers on its own. Real learning, real
  material, real mentors — but labelled plainly as *not* a legal qualification.

This is the knife-edge that separates CongoVersity from a diploma mill: **it is powerful precisely
because it refuses to lie about being the state's certificate.** When someone wants a
state-recognised credential, the honest answer is the accreditation-partner path — not a counterfeit.

And when the accreditation cartel is the *reason* a brilliant, non-standard learner is locked out?
That is what the **[web of trust](CONGOVERSITY_TRUST.md)** answers — not by faking the state's
degree, but by conferring an **honest parallel signal**: *"vouched-for by N verified peers in field
Y."* Two honest signals side by side. Never one counterfeit of the other.

## How a person learns here

### 1. Free material, cite-or-refuse
Course material is served the same way the estate serves all knowledge: through **Lucid**, which
**cites its source or refuses to answer** ([[lucid-engine]]). A learner is never handed a confident
fabrication. As the megamind (the peer-governed SSOT in [CONGOVERSITY_TRUST.md](CONGOVERSITY_TRUST.md))
grows, the material a learner studies is **peer-verified and provenance-chained**, not scraped.

### 2. Neurodiversity-affirming by design, not as a slogan
CongoVersity's schooling is built for the mind that the one-shape state exam underserves. It shares
the frame of **[Different Minds](../minds/index.html)**: *the goal is never to make a neurodivergent
learner "normal."* Concretely that means:
- **Multiple routes to the same standing** — demonstrate a skill by project, by teaching it, by
  building it, not only by sitting one timed exam.
- **Legible by default** — Atkinson Hyperlegible type, plain language, no dark-pattern pacing (the
  same accessibility posture as the rest of the estate's surfaces).
- **Pace is the learner's, not the cohort's** — standing is earned when the work is real, whenever
  that is.

*This isn't theoretical. South Africa's **Western Cape Education Department** already runs public
**"Schools of Skills"** that credit neurodivergent learners by **demonstrated competency** rather than
one academic exam — e.g. the **[Axios School of Skills](https://www.westerncape.gov.za/education/neurodiverse-centre-opens-axios-school-skills)**
and its 2026 Neurodiverse Centre (ASD + PID). CongoVersity's credit-by-skill model mirrors that live
government approach; the web of trust adds only that the earned standing becomes **verified and

### 3. Standing, earned through the graph — not asserted
When a learner clears the bar in a field, they earn **field-scoped standing** through the web of
trust: distance-decayed from verified roots, Sybil-resistant, auditable in the open
([CONGOVERSITY_TRUST.md](CONGOVERSITY_TRUST.md) §2–3). **Everyone who clears the mentor bar in a
field becomes a mentor in it** — the "everyone who has learned it, teaches it" flywheel. Earned
through the graph, never gifted.

### 4. The tiers (and which are certified)

Every tier says on its face what it is. Standing tiers say *"vouched-for by N verified peers in
field Y"*; they **never** say "accredited BSc."

## The honest gates (named, not hand-waved)
- **Free stays free — golden-share-locked** ([[golden-share-anti-betrayal]]). Learning and standing
  cannot later be paywalled against the poor. This is structural, not a promise.
- **Certified vs supplementary is always on the label.** No surface lets a learner mistake free
  standing for a state qualification. The accreditation-partner path is the *only* route to a
  legal credential, and it is named as such every time.
- **The standing model has a named limit — profound intellectual disability.** The
  earn-standing/become-a-mentor graph fits autistic and mild-to-moderate skills learners; it does
  **not** fit learners with profound intellectual disability, and must never be applied there. For
  those learners the school's care and skills work stands on its own and the graph does not reach.
- **Not medical, not clinical.** Where schooling touches neurodivergent healing it points to
  [Different Minds](../minds/index.html) and its forming clinical partner — CongoVersity teaches,
  it does not diagnose or treat. (Rule 3 of [the Klaus charter](../klaus/CHARTER.md): never put a
  vulnerable learner at risk.)
- **Child safety is upstream.** Any tier involving minors inherits the estate's child-safety
  posture (the Qapha / Ikhaya promises). Real children's identities are **off the public surface** —
  see the pilot's consent gate below.
- **Radical honesty on what's built.** The section below marks ✅ built vs ◻ gap, and does not
  round a gap up to done.

## The real-world seed — Shopfront Schools
The first *real* verified roots aren't hypothetical. Government teachers running a few **free schools
for neurodivergent kids in town shops** are exactly the design's ideal bootstrap: state-registered
teachers (source-verifiable credentials → the only honest door into the trust graph), already doing
the neurodiversity-affirming work in the physical world CongoVersity's software half lacks.

## What's built vs honest gaps
- ✅ **Governance core — PROVEN.** The web-of-trust governance is proven deterministically in
  `the420code/proofs/web-of-trust/` (21 self-verifying checks). The schooling arm rides on it.
- ✅ **The honest-gate doctrine — DECIDED.** Certified-vs-supplementary labelling and the
  free/golden-share lock are settled design, above.
- ◻ **A public CongoVersity page/URL — UNBUILT.** There is no `congosky.cloud/congoversity` route
  yet. Building one is deliberately gated on the pilot's consent story (below) so no real child or
  unconsented teacher lands on a public surface.
- ◻ **Real issuer verification — MODELLED, not wired.** The teacher-registration / ORCID / national
  API check is still an oracle in the proof. Wiring the real teacher-registration check is the #1
  unlock for the Shopfront Schools pilot.
- ◻ **The learner/mentor UI — UNBUILT.** Study, demonstrate-a-skill, see-your-standing,
  audit-the-graph surfaces do not exist yet.
- ◻ **Accreditation partner — NOT YET SIGNED.** No partner is contracted, so **no tier is certified
  today.** Every current surface must read "supplementary, not certified" until one is.

## The honest one-liner
CongoVersity's education arm teaches **free, cite-or-refuse, neurodiversity-affirming** material and
credits learners with **earned, field-scoped standing** through the web of trust — while naming, on
every surface, the one honest line it will not cross: **standing is not a state-recognised
qualification, and only an accreditation partner can confer one.** It is schooling that is powerful
because it refuses to lie about what a certificate means.
